David P. Johnson, MD

Dr. David Johnson is a member of the faculty of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. As a member of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, he spends his clinical time attending on teaching services caring for children with a variety of medical complaints. He completed medical school and a pediatric residency at Duke University before staying there to complete a chief resident year and a Performance and Quality Improvement Fellowship.  Since joining the faculty at Vanderbilt, he has completed two separate year-long Quality Improvement series at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In addition to his clinical and educational duties, he serves as the Medical Director of Inpatient Quality and Patient Safety at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and has successfully led Quality Improvement efforts within the hospital surrounding Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection reduction, mindful laboratory ordering, and asthma clinical practice guideline implementation. He enjoys teaching quality improvement methods to faculty, staff, and trainees as both an avenue for improving care for our patients and as a niche for scholarly activity.
