Medicare Shared Saving Program (MSSP)

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 established new ways that clinicians are reimbursed, including the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which has an enhanced focus on quality and process improvements.

The Connected Care ACOs, including Connected Care of Middle Tennessee, are participating in Track 1 of the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), which allows for favorable benefits under MIPS scoring and is considered a MIPS APM (Alternative Payment Model).

There are four performance categories under MIPS, and each provider will receive a composite performance score between zero and 100 based on the following categories:

Note: Cost is not a consideration because CMS is already evaluating this metric as part of  participation in an MSSP ACO.
