Neurosurgery

Hello

My name is Jennifer Neissen and I am the Interim Manager for the Neurosurgery POD in the Main Operating Room at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The Neurosurgery team consists of Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Radiological Technicians, Residents, Surgeons and Anesthesia Care Providers who provide high-quality perioperative care for adult patients in four subspecialty areas: Skull-based (craniotomy for tumor, aneurysm, etc.); Spine (functional, tumor, etc.); Deep Brain Stimulation; and Neuro-Vascular. The Neurosurgery Team functions at the highest levels of performance and efficiency; with our focus continually on safety and advocacy for the patients and family members trusting us with their care. The members of the Neurosurgery POD are very team oriented, able to multitask, and function in a highly technical, fast-paced environment.

VUMC supports the Shared Governance Model of care. Unit Boards are a feature of the Shared Governance Model. The Neurosurgery Unit Board has staff-elected representation and is tasked with addressing quality, efficiency and patient safety initiatives. There are ample opportunities for professional growth and development through clinical advancement, education opportunities, professional organizations, and continuing education activities.
