While we try to satisfy each individual's VOE request, certain limitations may prevent us from fulfilling your first choice. Since Vanderbilt University Medical Center is so large, we will reach out with a comparable recommendation based on information from your application if we cannot honor your first choice.
Observations in some areas may not be available for the welfare of our patients and participants.
Deadlines & Timing
Applications, including necessary documentation, must be received at least 30 days before the anticipated observation date unless a preceptor has pre-approved prior arrangements.
Observation confirmations may take longer than 30 days to confirm. If observation requests cannot be fulfilled, the applicant will be notified by email.
Fees/Costs
There are no application fees for participating in the VOE program.
Non-Vanderbilt applicants 18+ are responsible for their background check costs (minimum $36.25) once their application is approved. The entire background check cost is non-refundable.

To participate in the VOE program, Vanderbilt University Undergraduate participants must have identified a Preceptor to observe / shadow.
