Tennessee Controlled Substance Monitoring Database

The Tennessee Prescription Safety Act of 2012 represents a significant effort by our state legislators to Address the problem of prescription drug abuse. The Act, covered under Senate Bill 2253, was passed unanimously April 27th and approved by Governor Bill Haslam May 9th.

The following Frequently Asked Questions and Answers should be of value to you in interpreting and applying the law. This is intended to provide a quick overview of the Act, please follow the actual provisions of the Act.

All prescribing providers as of January 1, 2013 are required by law to register with the Tennessee Controlled Substance Monitoring Database. The Tennessee Department of Health suggests you register early and has staff members available to assist if you encounter any difficulties.
