Toddra S. Liddell is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) at Vanderbilt Dialysis East (VDE) Clinic. Toddra came to Vanderbilt in 2017 and is employed as a FNP in the outpatient dialysis clinic. She provides clinical responsibilities including rounding on 60+ patients monthly, interdisciplinary and care coordination responsibilities, and weekly and monthly meetings. Prior to her FNP role in dialysis, she worked in several areas of nursing including dialysis floor nurse, research nurse, management and she taught nursing students at the baccalaureate level.

Toddra’s primary role at VDE consist of providing care to End Stage Kidney Disease patients that are receiving dialysis treatments. Many of these patients have multiple comorbidities and requires detailed attention to their care.

Like many areas across the Vanderbilt Enterprise, the dialysis clinics also struggle with staff shortages. Our dialysis patients are resilient. Despite the staffing challenges, we as a dialysis team work hard to prevent any downstream affects to our vulnerable patient population.

To improve the mental/behavioral health concerns associated many patients on dialysis, Toddra returned to school for a post masters psychiatric health mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) certificate. She is dual-certified family and psychiatric nurse practitioner. She is currently working to trial integrating a PMHNP to the dialysis multidisciplinary team with hopes of improving patient outcomes in relation to adherence and hospitalizations.

In 2019, Toddra partner with nurse practitioner colleagues and wrote Hypertension Management in Chronic Kidney Disease for The Nurse Practitioner Journal. In 2020, she wrote Hepatitis C in Chronic Kidney Disease. She has worked with Leadership Excellence in Advanced Practice (LEAP!) Program for the past 2 years as a mentor. She finds working with LEAP! enjoyable and incredibly rewarding.  In 2022, Toddra was promoted to Associate in Medicine.

Toddra enjoys spending time with family. She is married and has 2 adult sons; ages 31 and 24. She enjoys reading autobiographies, bike riding and is currently training for the Selma to Montgomery ride in March 2023. She is excited to be a grandmother to her first granddaughter who was delivered on Nov 17th and her second grandchild (it’s a boy) in Jan 2023.
