Enterprise Cybersecurity to establish exclusive VUMC internet

On Tuesday May 21, 2019, Vanderbilt University Medical Center Enterprise Cybersecurity will disconnect the Medical Center internet association with Vanderbilt University and establish an exclusive perimeter around the VUMC network.

The new VUMC network perimeter will allow us to better manage our security posture, focus network management solely on the Medical Center, and facilitate changes and upgrades. The network consists of all computer equipment, printers, wireless connections, devices, and network connected phones.

During the network split on May 21st at 10:00 p.m., Medical Center employees working on the VUMC Employee network will not experience any downtime due to the launch. However, University employees, VUMC Guest wireless users, and users on an external internet connection will experience a temporary outage as network traffic is redirected.

An IT bridge call is scheduled beginning Wednesday, May 21st at 9:30 p.m. Departments will be able to test their equipment and connections with VUMC IT staff.  Testing VPN tunnels, applications, devices, and especially cloud-based connections will be important after the split and re-direction of traffic occurs.

In the event the Data Network Separation is delayed, the backup data network split is scheduled for Wednesday,May 29th at 10:00 p.m.
