David S. Conklin, M.D.

David S Conklin, MD is an Assistant Professor ofin the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences  where he serves as the Assistant Training Director for the General Adult Residency Program.  Additionally, he practices as a staff psychiatrist and is the residency program site director at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Veterans Affairs hospital in Nashvilleis the residency Site Director .  at the Nashville Veterans Affairs Hospital where he also serves as a staff psychiatrist.  Dr. Conklin completed his undergraduate medical education at Wake Forest School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in General Adult Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he also also served as Chief Resident for Inpatient Services.  His interest in biomedical ethics as well as clinical ethics consultation led to an apprenticeship at the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society in clinical ethics during his training earning a Certificate in Biomedical Ethics.  Afterwhich heHe  joined the Center the as core faculty in 2018. 

His clinical interests include mood disorders, PTSD, suicide prevention, moral injury, veteran mental health, and ethics consultation.  His research interests include improving resident burnout through wholehearted education, humanistic psychiatry, psychiatric ethics, psychiatric education, and the effects of mental illness on informed consent in clinical care.  He is currently a George Ginsberg Fellow through the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training which recognizes and fosters excellence and accomplishment in psychiatric education.  Dr. Conklin has received other awards and distinctions in his career including…
