Allan Byron Peetz, M.D.

Dr. Peetz is a practicing trauma surgeon and assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. His research interests include ethical issues in trauma surgery. His recently published articles include “Is informed consent for extracorporeal life support even possible?” AMA Journal of Ethics, and “Gun Violence Research and the Profession of Trauma Surgery” AMA Journal of Ethics. He has served on the ethics committee of several academic medical centers including Brigham and Women’s and University Hospitals (Case Western) and is currently co-chair of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s ethics committee.

Dr. Peetz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Chicago and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care & Trauma/Acute Care Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Peetz also completed a fellowship in medical ethics at the Center for Bioethics at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
