  • "Experts Recommend National Health AI Priorities"
    VUMC News (Feb. 13, 2025)
In 2024, as had previously been done in 2016 and 2020, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) empaneled groups of experts to write recommendations for the incoming Presidential administration. Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2025, published recently in Health Affairs, offers guidance to the new administration in several areas currently deemed vital by NAM. The 12 authors of the AI recommendations include Michael Matheny, lead author for the AI recommendations, and Peter Embi, co-author, and leaders from tech companies Microsoft, Google and Epic.

Susannah Rose (PI) and Zhijun Yin (co-PI) successfully hit Milestone 2 of their ARPA-H project. ARPA-H funding is milestone-based, and the Vanderbilt Chatbot Accuracy and Reliability Evaluation System (V-CARES) has achieved Milestone 2. V-CARES assesses LLM-based healthcare chatbots for accuracy and trustworthiness, thereby improving the quality information that the public, patients, and professionals receive from popular chatbots.
