Course Description:
This is a 1-day course that provides the psychiatric-mental health nurse with a review of the ANCC’s core curriculum. The ANCC’s Board Certification Test Content Outline was utilized in the design of this review course to provide knowledge and skill essential to the care of patients in the psychiatric setting.
This course is designed to assist the nurse in preparing to take the PMH-BC examination by reviewing the following learning objectives:
- Assessment & Diagnosis: developmental stages, psychiatric disorders, physiological causes, and changes, coping and defense mechanisms & assessment tools and techniques
- Planning: Client-centered care, educational concepts, cultural competence, communication barrier management, & treatment planning
- Implementation: Treatment modalities, complementary interventions, care coordination, milieu management, medication management, & psychoeducational group facilitation
- Evaluation: Intervention effectiveness, legal and ethical considerations, process improvement, & outcome measurement
