Dr. Blakely is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatrics at Vanderbilt.  He is currently the lead PI of two federally funded national pediatric surgical randomized trials.  Dr. Blakely receive his medical degree and completed most of his training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee.  He completed a research fellowship at the Harvard Medical School.  He received a K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award from the NICHD in 2001 and completed his Master’s degree in Clinical Research from the University of Texas, Houston in 2004.  His main research interest involves multicenter comparative effectiveness trials, especially those focusing on patient safety.  Dr. Blakely also founded and currently leads the Pediatric Surgery Research Collaborative.
