  • Facilitated, team-based process improvement sessions. Includes initial intake analysis, event charter, key metrics, and implementation support. Submit a request for Operations Support on the right to begin this process.

    • Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

    Address multiple problems across all the steps required to bring value to the customer (Value Stream). Key metrics are outcome-based.

    • Rapid Improvement Event (RIE)

    Address multiple problems related to a section of the Value Stream. Key metrics are outcome-based.

    • A3 Problem Solving Session

    Address a single problem where root cause is unknown. Key metrics are outcome or process-based.

     

  • We are committed to developing, preparing, and supporting VUMC staff through the continuous improvement process. We partner with front line staff and leadership to enhance daily problem-solving skills and capabilities supporting a culture of continuous improvement, achieving organizational goals, and delivering high quality care. We meet with staff members individually or in small groups and provide real-time coaching through each step of a project.

    • Lean Foundations - 2 hours

    This course will equip you with a basic knowledge of Lean concepts and how they apply to your area of work. You will be able to recognize the characteristics of non-value adding activities and how to reduce wasted resources in your area while also improving the customer experience.

    • Leading Problem Solving - 2.5 hours

    Have you ever had a problem that just won't go away or a metric that won't improve? This course will equip you with a problem-solving framework to attack any problem and the practical skills to apply it in your area. Upon completing the course, you will be able to systematically investigate any problem in your area while collaborating with your staff to implement effective and sustained solutions.

    • Leadership Standard Work - 2 hours

    As a leader in your organization, how do you ensure your long-term goals are achieved and sustained in the face of managing urgent, short-term priorities? This workshop will teach you the benefit of creating purposeful leadership routines that drive culture, achieve goals, and raise accountability for your area. Upon completing the course, you will have identified effective leadership routines and created an initial draft of your own Leadership Standard Work.

    • Coaching Workshop

    VUMC employees have the unique opportunity to attend a problem-solving training course designed to identify an organizational problem within their area and learn the steps needed to solve it. Each workshop participant will be assigned a coach to work through each step of the problem-solving process. 

    • Design Thinking

    Develop a novel, minimally viable solution (product or process) to meet customer need in an innovative way.

    • Labor Standards

    Helps determine an area's staffing requirements based on the key job elements of the role.

    • Staffing Models

    This is a model that helps match the volume of service to the number of staff needed.

    • Space Utilization Analysis

    A measure of how well a clinic is utilizing the space they have available to determine if current space is in alignment with volumes.
