Joey Barnett, Ph.D., Assistant Dean of Physician-Researcher Training and Director of the Office of Medical Student Research (the Inquiry Program), chaired and presented in an April 6th Symposium at the Experimental Biology  meeting in San Diego “ORPHEUS*-Developing Best Practices for Graduate Education in Europe” *(Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System). On April 11th, he was an invited speaker at the “NIGMS Symposium on Catalyzing the Modernization of Graduate Education” which was live cast from the NIH in Bethesda Maryland.

Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Gigante, a Founding Member of the Academy of Excellence in Teaching, who was the recipient of the 2016 COMSEP (Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics) Research and Scholarship Award!

Cathy Pettepher, Kim Lomis, and Neil Osheroff attended the combined Ottawa Conference/ANZAHPE Meeting in Perth, Western Australia (3/20-3/23/2016) where they presented a workshop entitled “From Theory to Practice: Developing an Assessment Strategy for Pre-Clerkship Medical Students that Incorporates Competency Domains.”

Sachin Patel, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Psychiatry and of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics will receive award along with other winners from President Barack Obama in Washington, DC.

Founded in 1991, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering’s mission is to recognize excellence in, and advocate for, the fields of medical and biological engineering in order to advance society.
 
 Andre Churchwell MD, was nominated for his “outstanding contributions to the interface of clinical cardiology and biomedical engineering for patients and as a mentor for trainees, educators and young investigators,” reads his nomination.

Jessica VanRegenmorter, Standardized Patient Educator in the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment (CELA), recently presented at the annual Tennessee Simulation Alliance conference on an interprofessional simulation project that she developed collaboratively with a team of Vanderbilt educators.

Leora Horn, M.D., M.Sc., associate professor of Medicine and clinical director of the Thoracic Oncology Program at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC), has received a 2015 Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award (CCITLA) from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
