Every other year, the Shapiro Institute Center for Education associated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, along with the Association for American Medical Colleges hold the Millennium Conference that addresses a key issue facing the medical education community. Medical schools from across the county submit proposals to participate in the conference. A team from Vanderbilt including Kim Lomis MD, Kim Dahlman PhD, Lourdes Estrada PhD, John McPherson MD, and Bill Cutrer MD, MEd was selected to participate. The Millennium Conference this year focused on the issues of Transforming the Post-Clerkship Curriculum.
The VUSM team worked with teams from 7 other schools to wrestle with key issues such as Post-Clerkship Curriculum, Lifelong Learning, and Post-Clerkship assessment. Descriptions by the group of the ongoing Curriculum 2.0 revision, especially the Portfolio process and the Immersion Phase design, were very well received by the other participants. This select Vanderbilt team of medical educators traveled to Boston May 6-8.
