New Office of Educational Informatics and Technology Created at VUSM

A new Office of Educational Informatics and Technology has been created under the leadership of Anderson Spickard, III, MD, MS, who will become Assistant Dean for Educational Informatics and Technology. The office will lead in planning and implementing informatics and technology applications to support teachers, staff, and learners across the continuum of medical education. It will also collaborate with VUSM deans, faculty, staff, and students to determine the most suitable informatics and technology solutions to support the broad educational mission of the School of Medicine.

According to Senior Associate Dean for Health Sciences Education Bonnie M. Miller, MD, “Anderson’s contributions come at a critical time in the development and implementation of Curriculum 2.0. We are thrilled to have someone in the role not only with Anderson’s experience in informatics and medical education, but also with such deep roots in the School of Medicine.”  A graduate of VUSM, Dr. Spickard is Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics and has held multiple departmental and VUSM leadership positions during his tenure. In July he is handing off his long-time role as Director of the Third-Year Medicine Clerkship to Ed Vasilevskis, MD, MPH.

More information will be provided in the coming months regarding this new office and how students, faculty and staff will interact with it. For now, please contact Donna Rosenstiel, LCSW, administrative director for the Office of Health Sciences Education, with questions.
