Please join us in congratulating Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, M.D., MPH, Director of the Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health, for recent recognition given for his commitment to diversity and inclusion. On Oct. 9, he was given the Levi Watkins, Jr. Faculty Award during a ceremony and annual lecture at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. The award is given in honor of Watkins, who was the first African American medical student at Vanderbilt University and went on to be the first surgeon to successfully implant an automatic heart defibrillator in a human patient.

Join Our AIDS Walk Team to Support Nashville CARES! Join Vanderbilt's new LGBTQ employee resource group at the Nashville AIDS Walk and 5K Run to be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Public Square Park. Help us raise money to support the work of Nashville CARES in ending the HIV epidemic in Middle Tennessee.

After more than two years of planning, the new Vanderbilt Clinic for Transgender Health will open on Friday, Aug. 24. The clinic, open Friday afternoons to start, will provide comprehensive gender-affirming services in a single convenient location. Initially, the clinic will co-locate in Bellevue at the Vanderbilt Walk-In Clinic before moving to its permanent home in One Hundred Oaks in January 2019.

We are very pleased to officially announce that we're (slightly) changing our name to the Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health. We formerly adopted "LGBTI" to mirror language used by the National Institutes for Health.

Once again, we have the good fortune to host a spectacular team of summer interns who are engaged in a variety of research and capacity-building activities for the Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health.
