The Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Clinic was established at Vanderbilt in 2006. It is directed by Kevin Ess, M.D., Ph.D. We provide comprehensive care for children and teens with TSC.
Tuberous sclerosis complex is a genetic disorder that affects the skin, brain, kidney, heart and lung with benign tumors (hamartomas) causing multiple medical problems. Knowledge about TSC has increased over the past ten years, and new therapies have been developed that target this disease at the molecular level.
The clinic has many associated subspecialties including Neurology, Epilepsy, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychology, Dermatology, Cardiology, and Nephrology. Dr. Ess is an expert on the management of neurologic disorders in TSC and also functions as a TSC “primary care physician” coordinating non-neurologic care and ordering important screening tests such as renal ultrasounds.
