Mikaela Elder

PhD rotation student

Mikaela received her B.S. degree in biochemistry with a minor in statistics from Colorado State University in 2020. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research in Dr. Eric Ross's lab experimentally investigating the effects of mutations in the prion-like domains of proteins linked to neurodegenerative diseases. She also contributed to a bioinformatics project in Dr. Ross’s lab studying the structural preferences in low-complexity domains of structured proteins in the Protein Data Bank. Mikaela’s current research interests are in computational systems biology, where she is interested in building computational models to understand the molecular mechanisms of disease. Outside of research, she enjoys crocheting and exploring Nashville.
