In 2017, VUMC’s Office for Diversity Affairs initiated Hidden VUMC Figures, an awards program to highlight the critical work accomplished by unsung heroes, some who have given more than 30 years of service to Vanderbilt. The annual event is aptly named after the Academy-award winning film "Hidden Figures," bringing to light the important work of minority women who worked as human computers to calculate the precise flight trajectories for the first NASA space missions in the 1960s.
