Travis Osterman, DO, MS, FAMIA, FASCO
Travis Osterman, DO, MS, FAMIA, FASCO, is a practicing medical oncologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he is Associate Vice President for Research Informatics, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer, the Ingram Associate Professor of Cancer Research, Director of Cancer Clinical Informatics at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, and Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and of Medicine (Division of Hematology and Oncology). He chairs the Executive Committee of mCODE (minimal Common Oncology Data Elements), the FHIR-based oncology data standard implemented at more than 70 institutions across six countries and the only method of submitting data to the CMS Enhancing Oncology Model. Under his leadership, Vanderbilt holds more structured genomic data in its electronic health record than any other institution in the United States.
His research applies machine learning and large language models to oncology, including immune checkpoint inhibitor outcome prediction and one of the earliest peer-reviewed clinical evaluations of ChatGPT (JAMA Network Open, 2023). He is board certified in medical oncology (2016) and clinical informatics (2016).
