Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is one of the nation's leading children's hospitals. We treat and help prevent all health issues ranging from colds and broken bones to heart disease and cancer.

Because the Department of Pastoral Care is very integrated in the hospital, CPE residents and interns are afforded the opportunity to become part of the interdisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals caring for children. The hospital has a robust Bereavement Program in which students and residents will also be involved.

An increasingly diverse population requires the hospital to consider a number of new multicultural issues, including a multiplicity of spiritual needs. CPE students can learn and do ministry with all ages and with those from many faith groups and cultures. Students are exposed to the wide range of opportunities provided by a patient care research-focused institution with the accompanying resources of libraries, divinity and medical schools, and other health disciplines as well as numerous religious communities. CPE students provide care alongside the pastoral care staff and community clergy.
