Metro Nashville, Mayor Proclaim Nurses Week and Year of the Nurse

In honor of the 200-year anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and the Office of Mayor John Cooper issued a “Proclamation Recognizing May 6-12, 2020, as National Nurses Week and Celebrating 2020 as Year of the Nurse.”

Nightingale was born May 12, 1820, and is acknowledged as the founder of modern nursing.

The proclamation recognizes that Nashville is home to more than 11,000 registered nurses and more than 2,000 advance practice nurses who play a vital role in providing health care to patients of the community.

In addition, to say thank you to nurses everywhere, the city will light the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge in downtown Nashville on Tuesday night in their honor.
