VUMC’s popular hotel stay program, which offered temporary housing options for employees who work with patients, will end March 31.
The program was launched in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. It allowed employees who work with or near patients to take advantage of VUMC’s partnership with local hotels to provide temporary housing options near the main campus.
Staying in one of these rooms helped employees to avoid long commutes, worked to minimize potential spread of COVID-19 to employees’ family members (or other individuals with whom they share a residence), and gave them a nearby place to recharge. The rooms were located within walking distance of the main campus and were offered at a low co-pay per night for eligible employees.
Since the program’s beginning, more than 2,600 reservations have been made, representing approximately 17,500 individual hotel nights.
Because VUMC employees have all been offered the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, there is no longer a high demand for the hotel rooms. Nearly three-quarters of the VUMC workforce has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
