Current COVID-19 Contraindications
COVID-19 vaccine(s) are safe and effective.
Like other vaccines, there are potential contraindications or reasons why you should not get this vaccine.
As of Dec. 13, 2020, these are reasons to wait or not get this vaccine right now:
- If you are younger than 16
- If you are allergic to components in the vaccine (refer to this page for specific vaccine components)
- If you have received COVID antibody or plasma therapy in the 90 days before planned vaccination
If any of these reasons apply to you, we recommend that you do not enroll in the VUMC employee vaccination program at this time.
These recommendations may change. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to review the performance of each vaccine. We will do our best to keep them current here. You may also find the latest information on the FDA website.
