Moving new song dedicated to VUMC workforce

This song is dedicated to you, the workforce of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Please listen, share and learn more about the Gratitude Tree.

Singer-songwriters Mat Kearney and Devon Gilfillian have released a new music video for their song “Times Like This.” This song reflects the ultimate Gratitune inspired by the encouraging notes of gratitude submitted by community members through to create the Gratitude Tree, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s first-ever interactive digital art installation.

The installation inside the hospital is dedicated to its more than 28,000 doctors, nurses, and staff, while also celebrating the lives saved and honoring those lost in the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

Nashville-based artists Mat and Devon composed a mellow track blending sounds of pop and R&B and combined it with lyrics inspired by the community outpour of gratitude to produce “Times Like This.” The song is meant to shine a light on those in the healthcare industry who have bravely endured a strenuous two years.

“We wanted to create an anthem inspired by the meaning behind the Gratitude Tree,” said Mat Kearney. “It’s not lost on anyone how hard the staff has had to work, especially over the past two years. This song is meant to uplift their spirits and let them know that so many of us have their backs.”

“Our community is incredibly important to us,” said Devon Gilfillian. “Mat and I wanted to use our talents in the best way possible to show them how thankful we are for the sacrifices they make to ensure the safety of others.”
