AHA News Release featuring findings: HIV linked with increased risk of sudden cardiac death

Heart News by The American Heart Association interviewed Drs. Freiberg and Tseng about their teams' work on the publication HIV Infection and the Risk of World Health Organization–Defined Sudden Cardiac Death. The highlighted findings were:

In an analysis of more than 120,000 veterans in the U.S., those living with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) had a 14% higher risk of sudden cardiac death than veterans who did not have HIV. The increased risk of sudden cardiac death was 57% to 70% higher among veterans who had high viral loads of HIV and 50% higher for each additional heart disease risk factor, compared to veterans who did not have HIV.
