Program Overview


The Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program at Vanderbilt Orthopaedics Institute and Belmont University is designed to enhance the clinician's professional skills both in the clinic and on the field.

Mission:

The mission of the Sports Clinical Residency at Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute & Belmont University is to prepare the physical therapy resident to be an advanced practitioner in sports physical therapy by working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. The resident will demonstrate excellence through evidence based clinical decision making and practice, serve as an educator, clinical researcher and professional role model for others.

 

Sports Residency Program consists of:

  • Direct Clinical Care of 30 hours per week at Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute, including 3 hours weekly of one-on-one clinical mentoring.  
  • Athletic training room experience of >6 hours per week at Vanderbilt University Student Athletics.
  • Weekend on-field medical coverage at various Vanderbilt University Athletic games and meets.

Sports Residency Program Outcomes:

  • Program Graduation Rate:  Since 2016, seven (88%) graduates
  • SCS Passing Rate:  Since 2016, six (100%) graduates
