Meets the MOCA® Part IV Simulation Requirement
The Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® (MOCA) simulation course fulfills one requirement of Part IV of MOCA. This activity contributes to the patient safety CME requirements for Part II: Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment of the American Board of Anesthesiology's (ABA) redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA), known as MOCA 2.0®. Consult the American Board of Anesthesiology® website for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.
CME Credit and Patient Safety Credit
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 7.5 CME credits for the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology's Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology program, known as MOCA 2.0. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABA MOCA 2.0 credit. This activity is eligible for Patient Safety credit. An evaluation component is required for each session. Sponsored by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology.
VUMC's Department of Anesthesiology, in partnership with the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment (CELA) at VUMC, offers realistic, immersive patient simulation education for ABA Diplomates seeking to fulfill their Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement (PPAI) requirement for MOCA.
The VUMC simulation program has been endorsed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA) Committee on Simulation Education to provide high-quality training to ASA members. To achieve the endorsement, CELA met strict criteria, including having well-documented educational offerings and curriculum, established instructor competency, strong leadership, and the equipment, facilities, personnel to provide sophisticated training. Learn more about CELA.
Participants will have an orientation to the simulation equipment before providing care to simulated patients. Each participant will take the lead as the primary decision maker on at least one simulated event. Simulations typically include the use of a high-fidelity patient simulator (such as Laerdal SimMan 3G) as well as simulated clinicians and/or patients (actors with scripted roles) and routine clinical equipment.
