MVA student intern Kelly McHugh focuses energy on community engagement

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The latest Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance student intern, Kelly McHugh, is still working out the specific direction her career path will take. With two years left in her academic career, she certainly has time to determine such things. However, broadly speaking, she knows exactly where she wants to target her energies. “I want to be focused on community engagement,” she says, “to address health equity.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Tilicia Mayo-Gamble, PhD, a post-doctoral fellow with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community Engaged Research Core, recently penned a blog on EdgeForScholars.org titled "It’s Not a One Size Fits All Approach: Best Practices for Engaging Minorities with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Health Research." In it, she discussed methods for researchers seeking to recruit and engage African Americans with SCD.

Neighborhoods Resource Center hosts Local Forum

NASHVILLE, Tenn. On Tuesday, June 6. 2017, the Neighborhoods Resource Center hosted the Local Forum "Making Research More Relevant to People: Results of a PCORI Methods Award" at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center. Precision Medicine & Health Disparities Collaborative now accepting applications for PMHDC Pilot Project Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Precision Medicine & Health Disparities Collaborative, led by Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Meharry Medical College and the University of Miami, is now accepting applications for Precision Medicine and Health Disparities Collaborative Pilot Project (PMHDC) Awards. Each 1-year pilot project award is for up to $50,000 direct cost. The application deadline is July 15, 2017.

Medical Grand Rounds presents 'Health Care Reform: From ObamaCare to the American Health Care Act'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. On Thursday, June 1, 2017, the Department of Internal Medicine and Nashville General Hospital at Meharry will present Medical Grand Rounds, with Gilbert Gonzales, PhD discussing "Health Care Reform: From ObamaCare to the American Health Care Act." Gonzales is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He will speak from 6 - 7 pm at the Cal Turner Family Center in Auditorium 1.
