Medical Assistants are required to keep their certification up-to-date according to VUMC job descriptions for medical assistants, job codes 6779, 6784, 6787, and 6788. Depending on the certifying agency, requirements for certification renewal must be met. Managers will track certification renewals and certification expiration dates in the Credentials Application Tracking System (CATS)*.
It is the medical assistant’s individual responsibility to maintain records of recertification due dates, education records, and renewal requirements from the certification agency. Refer to the overview along with the agencies’ links.
