Angela Yarnell Bonino, PhD, CCC-A

Angela Yarnell Bonino, Ph.D., CCC-A is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Bonino is the Division Director for Pediatric Audiology, and the Vice Chair for Quality and Safety in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences. She completed her clinical training in audiology at Vanderbilt University, and her Ph.D. and postdoctoral training at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was previously on faculty at the University of Colorado The long-term goal of Dr. Bonino’s research is to improve hearing health care for children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by transforming the standard of clinical care to include developmentally informed behavioral testing methods and practices. Her work includes (1) defining key methodology parameters that result in obtaining high-quality behavioral hearing data from children with IDD, and (2) identifying gaps in current clinical hearing assessment practices for children with IDD by using electronic health record data. This work is expected to pave the way in reduce gaps in clinical care for children with IDD, who have higher rates of co-occurring reduced hearing than seen in the general population.
