Course Overview
At the end of this in-person course, participants will receive certification in FEES learning procedures, including safe endoscope handling and interpretation of swallowing function in pediatric and adult populations. The course will include a combination of didactic coursework and hands-on training with supervision. This course meets Tennessee guidelines for didactic training and participants will obtain some of the passes required by the state of Tennessee.

Learning Objectives
- Identify important anatomical landmarks in the nasopharynx, oropharynx and hypopharynx for conducting and interpreting FEES exams.
- Compare and contrast the benefits and limitations of FEES versus VFSS as instrumental exams.
- Describe the safety of FEES, low incidence of complications of FEES, and research evidence supporting the use of FEES.
- List commonly used validated FEES rating scales to assess swallowing safety, efficiency, and physiology.
- Describe key language and important findings to include in FEES reports.
- Discuss legal considerations and state/ASHA guidelines for FEES.
- State ways to prepare for pediatric visits, ways to troubleshoot pediatric exams, and tailoring exams for pediatrics of different ages.
