Doug Mefford is a Managing Counsel in the Office of Legal Affairs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His practice focuses on transactional matters including joint ventures and other strategic affiliations, physician practice acquisitions, contracting, general corporate governance issues, operations for VUMC affiliated companies and real estate leasing and purchase issues. Prior to the separation of VUMC from Vanderbilt University, Doug was a Senior Associate General Counsel in the Office of General Counsel at VU. Prior to joining VU, Doug served as Chief Legal Officer for Cogent Healthcare. Doug has also served in various legal roles with Community Health Systems, Gambro Healthcare (now DaVita) and PhyCor. Doug began his legal career with Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville, Tennessee where he practiced in the firm’s corporate and securities group. Doug is a graduate of Western Kentucky University (B.A., Finance) and the University of Kentucky (J.D.), where he served as an editor for the University of Kentucky Law Journal. Doug is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and the Kentucky Bar Association.
