Established in 2006, Friends in Global Health (FGH) is a wholly-owned affiliate of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) currently operating in Mozambique.

FGH serves as VUMC’s primary vehicle for program implementation in Mozambique. FGH and VUMC function as one team, with most of its technical expertise based in Zambézia province, Mozambique. FGH has been registered with the Government of Mozambique for the implementation of HIV prevention, care and treatment and other health development programs for nearly 15 years. The FGH team works closely with Mozambique Ministry of Health officials at the national, provincial, district and health facility levels to implement sustainable models of community and facility-based services that cover, among other areas, the full spectrum of the HIV response.

  • Job Summary:

    This position will provide support to Friends in Global Health, LLC operating in Mozambique, Africa. We are seeking a dynamic professional to join our team as a Budget/Accounting Analyst. 

    Assisting the Sr. Financial Analyst, Financial Analyst and Administrative Officer, the Budget/Accounting Analyst’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

    • Provide support for financial oversight for international projects’ expenses:
      • Assist with monthly review of in-country expense reports for accuracy and validity to project and applicable budget periods
      • Translate various foreign currencies to USD (pull monthly exchange rate from Investing.com) and provide details to in-country team on the last business day of each month
      • Assist with monthly cash and bank reconciliations
    • Provide support for post-award accounting functions for VUMC/FGH Mozambique projects in compliance with sponsor, VUMC, and federal guidelines and deadlines.
      • Prepare check requests for payment processing
      • Prepare international wire transfer requests to vendors as needed
      • Prepare monthly financial reports for ongoing FGH projects; resolve discrepancies and explain any budget variances.
      • Prepare center request forms and other general ledger maintenance requirements (i.e. 1275s)
      • Identify and monitor grant, contract, and vendor payments.
      • Prepare journal entries for approval.
      • Conduct monthly general ledger reviews
      • Serve as liaison with other departments and assist with other responsibilities as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of related experience.

    Preferred experience and skills:

    • Monitoring  foreign NGO accounting data, including monthly cash and bank reconciliations
    • Translating various foreign currencies to USD.
    • Preparing international wire transfer requests to vendors.
    • Strong experience in post-award administration.
    • Strong experience with accounting and financial responsibilities.
    • Knowledge of spreadsheets and database applications.
    • Professional work style with high level of problem solving skills.
    • Additionally, successful candidates will possess and demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while remaining helpful and courteous, be extremely organized, efficient, team player and self-starter. 
    • Fluent in Portuguese

    Additional Information:
    This is a full-time, salaried position. 

    Salary is commensurate upon years of education and experience.
