For Our Alumni

In 1929, the Dietetic Internship at Vanderbilt graduated the first class of dietetic interns. Since it’s beginning, over 1000 entry level dietitians have graduated and are now serving communities in both the United States and abroad.

We have strategically developed an internship network of 65+ preceptors and 25 rotations in clinical, food systems management and community practice venues.  Our network supports the development of entry level practitioners that are difference makers and leaders.

Our goal is to create an online networking resource directory of former graduates. Please click on STAY CONNECTED to submit your current information and don’t forget to “like” us on Facebook!

Charitable Gifts

Private gifts help strengthen our programs so that we can train future dietitians to become leaders and make an impact in the areas of food and nutrition. To continue offering an excellent educational experience for our dietetic interns, we need your help.

Your unrestricted contributions to the Alumni Fund provide the following:

  • Lab Coats–presented to interns during the Martha Ballew Lab Coat Ceremony; in honor of Martha’s 30-year career as an internship preceptor.
  • Minority Scholarship – provides a dietetic intern(s) whose national ethnic origin, race, and/or gender is a minority not only in the field of dietetics by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics but also in this internship. Available funds are issued in January.
  • Specialty Workshops – provides funding for interns to attend a chef’s culinary boot camp and/or a culinary writers’ workshop.
  • Annual Meeting Registration – provides registration for a virtual Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual meeting.
  • Online Courses – provide dietetic interns with access to online courses (as a supplement to rotations and/or to meet specific competencies).  Courses are from an accredited provider.
  • Internship Faculty Training – support faculty training in areas with direct impact on improvement in the dietetic internship curriculum.

Gifts of any size make a huge difference and will enable us to continually enhance our program!
