Hospital Acquired Conditions (Full List)

Unplanned Extubation (UE)

What is an Unplanned Extubations (UE)?

An unplanned extubation (UE) happens when an intubated patient has their endotracheal tube is removed when it was not supposed to be. Sometimes a patient will self-extubate when they move or grab their tube. UEs can also happen when the patient is being moved by their care team.

What are we doing to prevent UEs?

Our hospital uses prevention bundles that combine multiple evidence-based best practices to prevent UEs.
