Intussusception Care Algorithm (CPG)

This Clinical Practice Guideline was developed by a multidisciplinary group of content experts to standardize the evaluation and management of children presenting with ileocolic intussusception to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. The algorithm outlines clear discharge and admission criteria, recommends admission to a surgical service when hospitalization is required, and emphasizes timely, bidirectional communication between surgery and radiology—particularly when imaging shows partial or incomplete reduction—to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
