Clinical Practice Guidelines: Clostridioides difficile Infection

CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES (FULL LIST)

CLOSTRIDIOIDES DIFFICILE INFECTION (CDI)

Clostridioides difficile Infection (CDI) is a bacterial gastrointestinal illness with varying degrees of clinical severity. Exotoxins and bacterial overgrowth of the colon drive the clinical manifestations of disease. These guidelines provide recommendations for both immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients who are hospitalized at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. They reflect recommendations as provided by the 2024-2027 Red Book and evidence available since the publication of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Clostridium difficile Infection in Adults and Children: 2017 Update by SHEA/IDSA. This guideline was developed with the goals of standardizing diagnostic and antimicrobial management of C. difficile based on severity of infection and current evidence in the pediatric literature.
