KomedyPlast Craniofacial Mission

Neurosurgical missions are coordinated with the NGO KomedyPlast. The group consists of four pediatric plastic surgeons from across the country, two pediatric anesthesiologists, two scrub techs, and one neurosurgeon. Fellows and residents often join the attendings. We stage a full day clinic for patients from all over Peru and run two operating rooms per day throughout the week. There are multiple transcranial craniofacial cases (syndromic/single-suture craniosynostosis, post-traumatic, post-encephalocele repair) per day, and the extra time is filled with cleft repairs/reconstructive plastics cases. Local surgeons are incorporated into the team to learn how to take care of these complex patients.
