Research

Our research focuses on developing novel noninvasive methods for the diagnosis of various gastrointestinal (GI) diseases that are very difficult to detect otherwise, such as functional nausea, gastroparesis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and intestinal ischemia. We have developed a Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID)magnetometer to measure the gastric and intestinal slow waves. We also perform multichannel mapping of electrogastrogram/electroenterogram simultaneous with SQUID recording. The main research programs within the lab:

Noninvasive markers of disease severity in pediatric patients with functional nausea

Noninvasive assessment of gastric slow wave pathology for diabetic gastroparesis

Noninvasive screening tools for chronic mesenteric ischemia

Realistic Anatomical modeling (Auckland Bioengineering Institute)
