Over 38,000 students are enrolled in the university, including those enrolled in regular programs, sandwich programs, and distance education, as well as students from affiliate institutions. The College of Health Sciences, as well as Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Allied Health Sciences, are located at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), the only tertiary care center in southern Ghana.

KBTH was built in 1923 and has been affiliated with the University of Ghana since 1962.
