Research Topic: Cognitive impairment and HIV

Dr. Matuja will spend her fellowship year at Bugando Medical Centre-HIV Care and Treatment Clinic in Mwanza under the mentorship of Robert Peck, MD, PhD and Samuel Kalluvya, MD, MMed. Her research will focus on cognitive impairment in young and middle-aged HIV and non-HIV infected adults in Tanzania.

Dr. Matuja completed her Masters in Medicine training at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in 2019. She is currently working as a physician and lecturer in the department of Internal Medicine at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences-Weil Bugando in Mwanza and has recently enrolled for a PhD program. Her long-term career goal is to practice as a physician-scientist in neurology and become an independent researcher capable of conducting collaborative clinical research in Tanzania, sub Saharan Africa and globally that will improve the health of the population.
