Marie Belizaire, MD

LMIC Fellow

Home Institution: GHESKIO
Fellowship Site: GHESKIO, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Research Topic: Point-of-care (POC) viral load (VL) testing among HIV-infected adolescents in Haiti

Dr. Belizaire will spend her fellowship year at GHESKIO Centers in Port-au-Prince under the mentorship of Jean William Pape, MD. Her research will focus on point-of-care viral load testing  among HIV-infected adolescents in Haiti.

Dr. Belizaire completed her medical training and residency in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and is now interested in gaining skills to implement research protocols assessing new models of care, treatment plans, or drugs that would allow adolescents to have better adherence to treatment. For the past three years, she has been working with adolescents living with HIV in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as a research physician with GHESKIO Centers, the largest HIV/AIDS clinic in the Caribbean.

Dr. Belizaire would like to gain research skills to design, implement, and evaluate health interventions, which would allow her service population (adolescents) to have improved health outcomes. She hopes to strengthen her team at GHESKIO and train future health care providers with this training, which would ultimately improve the quality of life of her local population.
