Research Topic: Acute Coronary Syndrome, Cardiovascular Risk Reduction and Screening: a community education intervention
Dr. Demisse will spend her mentorship year at Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa under the mentorship of Rebecca Gary RN, PhD, FAHA, FAAN and Bekele Alemayehu, MD. Her research will focus on acute coronary syndrome, cardiovascular risk reduction, and screening: A community education intervention. Dr. Demisse is a native Ethiopian with first-hand experience of what it is like to live as a citizen and work as a nurse in a resource-limited setting. After completing her bachelor's degree in nursing, she practiced as a community nurse in a rural clinic for over three years. She is a lecturer and researcher at Addis Ababa University (AAU) in the Department of Emergency Medicine where her work centers on emergency nursing and improving access to care in the emergency department (ED). In the emergency department, she is serving in an administrative capacity overseeing care coordination including triage and emergency nursing care. She was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program for 2018-2019, and a travel scholarship from the Consortium of Universities of Global Health.
