Research Topic: The secretor phenotype of malnourished children in Lusaka, Zambia
Dr. Chandwe will spend his fellowship year at the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka under the mentorship of Paul Kelly, MD and Douglas Heimburger, MD, MS. His research will focus on the role of environmental enteropathy in malnourished children living in un-derprivileged communities of Lusaka.
Dr. Chandwe is a Pediatrics and Child Health specialist based in Lusaka, Zambia. His career interest is pediatric gastroenterology with a bias towards clinical translation research in under nutrition and environmental enteropathy. This interest has largely been influenced by his experience working on the malnutrition ward of the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. This is coupled with the research work done by Dr. Beatrice Amadi and Professor Paul Kelly, gastroenterologists who for a long time have been working in the area of nutritional disorders in Zambia.
Dr. Chandwe studied at the University of Zambia-School of Medicine and graduated with a masters in Pediatrics and Child Health in 2017. His goal is to one day become an expert re-searcher who contributes to the reduction of the high childhood mortality and under nutrition rates in his country Zambia.
