Dr. Xu will spend her fellowship year at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok under the mentorship of Vip Viprakasit, MD, DPhil (Oxon) and Marilyn Telen, MD. Her research will focus on thalassemia screening in Southeast Asian migrant populations.

Dr. Xu received her MD from Columbia University, where she also was a Doris Duke clinical research fellow investigating G6PD deficiency in an HIV clinic in the Dominican Republic. While completing her training in Internal Medicine at Duke University, she has studied the progression of nephropathy in sickle cell disease under the mentorship of Dr. Telen. After the Fogarty fellowship, she plans to pursue further fellowship training in Hematology and to continue working on the global burden of hemoglobinopathies.
