John Bonnewell, MD

Research Topic: Sepsis in sub-Saharan Africa: A prospective observational study of clinical management, outcomes, and barriers to care in northern Tanzania

Dr. Bonnewell will spend his fellowship year at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi under the mentorship of Matthew Rubach, MD, John Crump, MBBCh, and Venance Maro, MD. His research will focus on sepsis in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Dr. Bonnewell is an Internal Medicine physician and fellow in Infectious Diseases at Duke University. He received his MD from the University of Louisville and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brown University. He has global health experience working in eastern Ecuador as a medical student and providing care to a significant proportion of incoming refugees to Rhode Island as a medical resident.  

Dr. Bonnewell is currently involved in the Global Health Pathway at the Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health at Duke and working to obtain a Master of Science in Global Health. He is interested in a career in academic medicine and is specifically interested in research on sepsis care in the global setting.
