Research Topic: Perceptions of Antibiotic Use
Dr. Muro will spend her fellowship year at Kilimanjaro Christian Research Institute (KCRI) in Moshi under the mentorship of Blandina Mmbaga, MD, MMed, PhD, Monique Hennink, PhD and Leslie Johnson, PhD, MPH, MLitt. Her research will focus on socio-cultural influences on antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance among mothers’ of children under five in Tanzania. Dr. Muro is a public health physician at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) and she holds a lecturer position, Institute of Public Health, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) of the Tumaini University Makumira. She received the Qualitative Research Leaders Program (QRL) Fellowship award in 2020. Her research interest focuses on infectious disease and most recently antimicrobial resistance (AMR). She is completing her Postdoctoral fellowship working on a larger study aiming to support National Action Plan for AMR, Tanzania where her role involves a survey of antibiotic use and resistance in selected health facilities. Her goal is to find ways that will contribute towards AMR containment both locally and global. Her professional aspirations consist of acquiring research skills in global health that would assist her in pursuing robust research as an independent investigator.
