Research Topic: Improving self-care behaviors and outcomes in Type 2 diabetes patients with and without comorbid heart failure

Dr. Bulti will spend his fellowship year at Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the mentorship of Dr. Sandra Dunbar, RN, DSN, FAAN, FAHA and Dr. Rebecca Gary, RN, PhD, FAHA, FAAN. His research will focus on improving self-care behaviors and outcomes in Type 2 diabetes patients with and without comorbid heart failure.

Dr. Bulti defended his PhD in nursing in 2019 from the collaborative program between Ad-dis Ababa University and Emory University. His long-term research interest is the development of novel self-management intervention to improve health outcomes and delay or pre-vent complications for persons with diabetes mellitus and comorbid conditions in Ethiopia.  

Dr. Bulti has been working as a nurse in Ethiopia in different settings and capacities for over two decades. His positions have ranged from a staff nurse in the operating room, medical and surgical units to various teaching and leadership positions at Addis Ababa University School of Nursing and Midwifery. He has also participated in various national task forces in Ethiopia.
